For starters, where did the idea for IceFresh˚originate?

The origin of IceFresh˚ began back in 2005 when Johan Fredrik Dale set out to revolutionize the fish delivery value chain. His goal was to create a pathway for top-quality Norwegian fish to be thawed as close to the customer as possible. It just so happened that around that same time, Anders Haugland had just completed a Ph.D. in industrial thawing at SINTEF. The two were able to collaborate in the development of the first IceFresh˚ thawing machine.

Many iterations later, Haugland serves as the IceFresh˚ CTO, still driving the vision forward. Despite early challenges all tech start-ups face, momentum accelerated when Hofseth acquired the company in December 2020. The transformation has been rapid ever since!

  • Our solution has algorithms for various seafood species and formats with the ability to create new combinations for alternate proteins. The IceFresh˚ value chain makes most sense for products with a naturally short shelf life.

    IceFresh˚ is a technology service provider with the goal to enable the seafood industry to optimize their value chain. We don’t sell fish, but we do love to eat it.

  • IceFresh˚ technology is ideal for any producers, distributors, or processors who manage perishable proteins like seafood and want to match their supply to real-world demand.

  • We have equipment designed to run 50 tons per day at one location and can scale up from there.

  • IceFresh˚ is continuing to build its defrosting network across the US, the first located in Chicago, IL, and second in Los Angeles, CA. We acknowledge that for some, the most efficient solution is to implement a hub in their own facility.

    We would love to provide service to as many inspired defrosting champions as possible. Contact us to discuss potential solutions (ie: in-house IceFresh˚ operations as a part of the defrosting network).

  • The investment is less than you’d think.

    If you or your suppliers have the ability to pack and freeze the product according to IceFresh˚ recommendations, we will build the necessary refreshing capacity at a location within practical distance to your operations.
